2015.11.30 – Lumpy’s Links

Lumpy’s Links for 2015.11.30

I know I am a day late …better late than never.

Here they are:

  • Ludicrous – There is no limit to what criminals do. Sometimes stupid, sometimes creative, always wrong, too often hurtful, and, in this case, simply strange. After realizing a child was in a car they stole, they dropped the kid off at school!
  • Useful – While you are going to have use Google translate, this is a list of the most returned items. In other words, stuff not to buy.
  • Music – While I grew up with MTv, the truth is most music videos are not that great. Here is a Red Lips cover that is just off the hook! GTA – Red Lips. Kudos to io9 for the find.
  • PPhoto – I totally agree with io9, the US Navy nailed The Force Awakens with the best spoof to date
  • Yours – Nothing this week
  • Science – The article refers to it as Flower Power, a circuit inside a rose!

Useless Starts To Sentences

While I am digging through news feeds looking for material to scribe about, I am listening to The No Agenda Show.  While you can say what you wish about John C. Dvorak and Adam Curry, personally, I love their show. I have been listening to Adam since his Daily Source Code podcast.  I could not tell you how long I have read Dvorak and regardless of what he said about the PC mouse, I still think he is a required-tech-guru follow. Their snarky, critical thinking is a welcome change from the mainstream media.

As they often do, they were discussing politics.   In this instance, the recent Democratic Debates.  Mr. Dovorak presented a list of phrases that he noticed the participants often starting a sentence with… phrases that added nothing to the meaning of the sentence. US Navy Spoofs The Force Awakens with Kewl Video

With The Force Awakens coming out soon, so are the spoofs.  I have to agree with the folks at io9, the US Navy nails it.

Sea Wars Trailer

Yeah, they had the unfair advantage of having jets at their disposal but you must admit the mop2D2 is a creative touch.

Robotic Tabletop Video

This tabletop moves objects by motor-driven pins. Personally, I would love to see some type of table made like this for War Machine.  It really is worth watching all the way through.

I originally discovered this via a post at Hack a Day.

10,000 Free Cylinder Audio Downloads

The earliest recordings, before those black-grooved-plastic-thingies, were done on cylinders of wax, tin foil and plastic.  While the first media for audio may lack much by today’s standards, there remain many reasons to keep these accessible, if nothing more for the sake of history and education.

Open Culture is a great source for matters regarding what is well described by their name.  They featured an article about the University of California-Santa Barbara Cylinder Audio Archive releasing 10,000 cylinder recordings for streaming or downloading.  Not only is the collection free, but is also searchable and has a page organized for browsing. The browse page offers both genre and instrument category links.

2015.11.22 – Lumpy’s Links

Lumpy’s Links for 2015.11.22

Greetings Reader,

Thank you for checking out the first list of weekly links I have shared in a good while.

Here they are:

  • Ludicrous – While I am all for freedom of religion, wearing a spaghetti strainer helmet for you driver’s license photo, in my humble opinion, is ludicrous. Although I confess, she looks happy in the photo.
  • Useful – I find TweetDeck the ONLY way to use Twitter, without it, the 1K+ tweeps I follow would be nothing but noise. This article at at The Verge explains how to use the filters.
  • Music – Alice Cooper plays a suprise gig. (some video is embedded below)
  • PPhoto – Most likely, this bright streak, is from the Taurids meteor shower. Regardless, it is a great photo.
  • Yours (Something tweeted to me or emailed) – This being the first one in a long while, to date, I have received nothing.
  • Science – How about using plasma to grow diamonds?
  • I had to mention this one as a bonus. It is just a really kewl looking Alien

Since it has been a while since I have published one of these and also the week of Thanksgiving here are a few links for the black shopping days. I originally heard of or found all of these and many more useful tips, hacks and tricks Lifehacker.

Thanks for reading, feel free to share, comment or even send me a PayPal Tip. Feel free to send me any and all suggestions you wish or hit @Lumpy on twitter

Pardon My Theme Dust

construction photoWhile I really liked my previous WordPress Theme, it has been way too many years since it was updated. Pardon any ugliness that may occur as I update the site to a new look.  As usual, comments and feedback are welcome.
